In today's world, there are so many choices to maintain a good oral hygiene. Among all of them brushing your teeth is the most effective. It is more important to focus on the technique itself than the type of toothbrush to use. I will talk about the different kinds of toothbrushes. As a provider I see most of my patients are over brushing their teeth. By doing so they are doing more harm than good. The major problem with over-brushing is sensitive teeth. This is caused by damage to the enamel and gum tissue. There are other reasons for sensitive teeth which include Decay, Dry mouth, Decalcifications, Malformation of the teeth, and Cracked teeth.

Let's talk more about types of brushes. They can be classified on the basis of Bristles : Soft, Medium and Hard. They can also be classified as Manual and Electric.

Choosing a tooth brush is equally important as the technique. Most people use medium bristles brush. It is easy to hurt your teeth with the medium bristles versus the soft bristles. Another major issue with the brushing is that most people do not pay attention and end up over brushing their teeth. Brushing always takes a back seat. Most patients end up planning for the day while they are brushing their teeth versus being focused on the technique. Electric toothbrushes are a good option. New tooth brushes have built in sensors to avoid extra pressure during brushing. The brush will turn red and stop you from doing damage. Some of the electric brushes have Bluetooth technology which might be good for over achievers but certainly not necessary. The end point is take your time to brush your teeth. Be gentle and thorough!

         Dental Implants a blessing !

Recent advances in technology has increased the success rate of dental implants to replace the missing teeth and to stabilize ill fitting and loose dentures. The thought of getting a dental implant makes some patients nervous so i want to address the issue. Procedure for getting an implant is less invasive than getting your teeth extracted. Patients who had dental implants placed had minimal postoperative discomfort or pain. The healing of implant is called osseointegration. Osseointegration is the direct integration of implant with the bone which determines the functional success of the implant. Dental implant is a perfect fixed solution when compared to the bridge and partial denture. Dental Implants is the best treatment option to replace missing teeth.
