Periodontics

Many of our new patients don’t understand how important the health of their gums is. For them to retain their teeth for life, their gums must be healthy and growing tightly against the teeth. If there are empty pockets around the teeth, bacteria can grow rapidly in these pockets. Infections start and teeth can be loosened and even lost unless gum disease is treated.
  • If you see these signs of gum disease, please call us right away:
  • Soft, red or puffy areas
  • Bleeding after brushing or flossing
  • Bad oral odors
  • Loosened teeth

If we see signs of early gum disease, we will educate you on how you can reverse this problem with improved home care. More advanced gum disease requires professional treatment and we are happy to help. In most cases, scaling and root planing are the first steps. These involve removing tartar from below the gum line and smoothing the roots of the teeth to eliminate areas where bacteria can grow.
